FAQs

Do you use any additives in your drinks?

Additives are ingredients that we are permitted to use in our products. They include preservatives, flavourings and colours, but also vitamins, minerals and sweeteners.

All of the additives used in our products have undergone safety testing and have been approved as safe for use in drinks.

Why do you add sugar to soft drinks?

Sugar is a traditional sweetener which is used in many soft drinks. It enhances fruit flavours and balances acidity as well as providing a source of readily available energy. We believe that regular soft drinks can form part of a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle. However, we acknowledge that some people prefer to avoid sugar and therefore we provide an extensive range of No Added Sugar or Sugar Free products to meet these choices.

What artificial sweeteners do you use in your drinks?

We currently use aspartame, acesulfame K, saccharin and sucralose, either on their own or in combination, and sometimes in combination with sugar. They provide a low calorie alternative for people who want to limit their daily calorie consumption. All the sweeteners used in our products have been approved as safe for use in drinks.

Which of your products are suitable for Diabetics?

There is no such thing as a food or drink suitable or unsuitable for diabetics. It is the overall balance of the diet and lifestyle which counts.

The sugar content of all Britvic products is clearly stated in the nutrition table on pack so people with diabetes are able to decide whether or not the product is suitable for them, depending on guidance from their dietitian and based on their insulin and blood sugar levels at any given time.

We would recommend that those with diabetes discuss their diets and the suitability of individual products with their doctor or dietitian.

Nutrition information for our brands is also available here.

Why do you use caffeine in some of your products?

Caffeine occurs naturally tea leaves, coffee and cocoa beans and is also added in the manufacture of a number of food and drink products including soft drinks.

Caffeine has been used as a flavour component in cola-type drinks since their invention towards the end of the 19th century. The caffeine in these drinks gives a bitter taste which, in combination with the other ingredients, produces a pleasant, distinctive, overall flavour.
