Britvic launches new guideline daily amount information on all of its products
Marketplace Case Study One

Britvic has introduced Guideline Daily Amount (GDA) icons on all its drinks. The industry-led scheme lists the amount of sugar, fat, saturates and salt, and details the number of calories present in each serving. Labels will also give the percentage of the guideline daily amount for each nutrient.

Public affairs manager, Nick James says: ‘We’re committed to helping consumers make informed purchasing decisions and we have led a large amount of the development of this scheme. It’s a big move for the industry.’

But will it affect the popularity of products? Nick says: ‘It will show we have some indulgent products, but also diet drinks and healthy fruit juices. We’re keen to offer consumers enough choice.’

The best way to enhance labelling was discussed with other industry representatives and a standard scheme of GDA icons was agreed under the banner of the British Soft Drinks Association. Artwork manager Tim Lynch says: ‘We have a two-year plan in place to make GDA changes at the same time as other artwork changes to minimise disruption and allow continuity across product ranges.’
